Pub-rock heroes the Pogues are very much known for frontman Shane MacGowan’s antics on and off the stage. The man with the worst teeth in music must be the only singer to have a separate Wikipedia section for “Self-destructive behavior.” What would the Pogues be without Shane MacGowan?
They would be this. “Tuesday Morning” comes from their 1993 album Waiting for Herb, the first disc recorded without Shane. Any band losing their frontman is problematic, but a band losing as charismatic a leader as MacGowan threatened to be devastating. It’s Van Halen without David Lee Roth, Black Sabbath without Ozzy Osbourne, the Grateful Dead without Jerry Garcia.
