Probably every song the Beatles have ever written is someone’s favorite song. “If I Fell,” off A Hard Day’s Night, is not one of the band’s most famous songs (although when talking about the Beatles that’s certainly a relative term), but rest assured that someone out there would be upset if anyone put out a cover of this song that sounds radically different. Living in the S.F. Bay Area, I have had the pleasure of being in the know when it comes to Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers. The soulful, rocking Bluhm is a regular live performer who turns up at the big festivals, as a guest vocalist and headlining her own gigs. Mashups are usually the realm of DJ’s, not singer/songwriters who favor acoustic guitars. Texas-based musician Aaron Kaufman is breaking the mold, however, with some creative mashups that pair a classic track with a modern hit.
