It’s not likely you’ll go the whole summer without hearing Weezer’s “Island in the Sun.” As a summer playlist staple ever since its 2001 release, it’s difficult to imagine it sounding as good without Weezer’s signature wailing guitar solos and the easygoing voice of frontman Rivers Cuomo. But Deaux, comprised of Alexa Cruse and Jacob Morrison (who we’ve previously heard as Hands(s)), proves that it can be done. Their mellow electronic rendition strips the track down, changing its sound but keeping its heart.
This Week on Bandcamp rounds up our favorite covers to hit the site in the past seven days.
After last week’s ten-track bonanza, we tried to keep things reasonable this week. It was tough though. The five tracks below take on sources both buzz-worthy (new Death Cab!) and obscure (1983 Eddie Jobson and the Zincs track). No two take a remotely similar approach, making this one of the most diverse sets we’ve had so far.
