Beyoncé – Moon River (Mancini/Mercer cover

Any month with a new cover by Beyoncé is a big month. Admittedly, her piano-crooning “Moon River” like so many others have piano-crooned “Moon River” – and for a Tiffany’s ad no less – is slightly underwhelming. girl in red save your tears

One of the stars of the bedroom-pop movement, girl in red, covered The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears” early last week, only weeks after The Weeknd performed it at the 2021 Super Bowl halftimeshow. The Norwegian singer, known as Marie Ulven, covered the song after the release of her single “Serotonin” in the first week of March, ahead of her debut album if i could make it go quiet out April 30th. If she put half as much spunk and passion into her album as she did for this cover song, it is certainly a cause for excitement. Continue reading »

Daniel Romano’s Outfit – Sweetheart Like You (Bob Dylan cover)


This one’s for all the Dylan superfans. In 1984, Bob Dylan played three songs on Letterman with L.A. punk band The Plugz. They were gritty and garagey and raw. It boded well for his new sound. And then he never played with them again. The album he was ostensibly promoting, Infidels, was much smoother, helmed by Mark Knopfler. For those who still wonder what could have been, Daniel Romano covered the entire album as if he’d recorded it with The Plugz. Continue reading »
