English Singer-Songwriter Natasha Khan, better known by her stage name Bat For Lashes has done her fair share of cover songs in the past. The other night she dropped by Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show and reminded us all why we fell in love with her covers in the first place. Bat For Lashes covered the wildly popular Rihanna and Calvin Harris’ dance anthem “We Found Love.” A song that had almost slipped out of the cover song realm in the last few months. If you thought this song was haunting you before, wait till you hear Khan’s captivating cover.
You may remember that back in September we posted an interview with “Fleet Foxes.” That’s “Fleet Foxes” in quotes, since it wasn’t actually Fleet Foxes, but a guy who covered pop songs in the harmony-acoustic style of Fleet Foxes, and did so damn well. Since then, the imposter known as Fleet Foxes Sing has gotten more press, from the likes of New York Magazine and BlackBook (who claims our interview blew the lid on the farce, though it wasn’t exactly a secret).
YouTube is filled with amateur cover artists. Most stink. On The ‘Tube extracts the exceptions.
Guitarist Casey Shea first tipped us to his band Everlea’s YouTube page more than a year ago. From the first video we played, it was immediately apparent that these acoustic covers needed to be categorized somewhat differently than the more amateur performances we normally dig up. Each video was beautifully filmed in a different location, swapping the usual bedroom-webcam aesthetic for barns and harbors. The cinematic backdrops frame Everlea singer Justin Dubé’s lovely acoustic takes on the Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and over a dozen others.
Since its release in September of last year, Rihanna and Calvin Harris‘ smash hit “We Found Love” has been extensively covered by everyone from your next door neighbor to YouTube sensation Boyce Avenue. There’s no denying that the song can make just about anybody want to dance, but the great thing about covers of a song like this is that they can make you want to do other things.

Since its release this past September, Rihanna’s “We Found Love” has become a bonafide hit. With the help of Scottish DJ and singer Calvin Harris, the massively successful Barbadian-born pop star dropped this addictive dance track as the lead single off her most recent album, Talk That Talk. “We Found Love” soon skyrocketed to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, clinching the spot for nearly 9 weeks.
