We don’t see a lot of gospel songs done over here on Cover Me Songs. Active Child, the moniker of electronic musician Pat Grossi, opened up the new year with a chilling cover of the 1905 hym “His Eye Is On The Sparrow,” and trust us, it won’t bring flashbacks of being forced to go to church.
UK Singer/Songwriter Ellie Goulding is no stranger to the cover song. We’ve brought you numerous of her covers before, and she is finally back with an all new cover of pop singer Active Child’s “Hanging On.” She is joined on the track by fellow UK rapper Tinie Tempah who ads an entirely new verse to the Active Child song. It might be Tempah’s refreshing verse or the electronic club feel Ellie added to the song, either way there is something about this cover that really, really works.
Call it “Black Swan Syndrome” or “Nutcracker Fatigue,” but ballet has never been more disturbing. What is it about images of grace and serenity that couple so well with images of unbridled violence? Whatever it is, it works.
The latest creepy-dancer visuals come from L.A. quartet Princeton. For the video for their cover of the Walker Brothers’ “The Electrician” (a dark enough song as is), they blend beautiful images of a ballerina dancing alone with a slow-motion police chase and beating. We’d say you’ll never see ballet the same way again, except, after Black Swan, you may see ballet this way already.
