Kanye West‘s douchebag-toasting hit single “Runaway” – the second one released off of his album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the one with the 35-minute music video – has been covered more times than we can count. In fact, we did a whole post on our picks of the songs’ five best covers a while back. It’s been redone yet again by Brooklyn’s Oberhofer, the self-proclaimed “coincidence pop” band headed by Brad Oberhofer.
The Tacoma-born lead singer recently covered the song with his band at Todd P’s Acoustic BBQ, a Brooklyn event featuring up-and-coming musical acts. The rough-around-the-edges live performance brought their set to a pretty successful close. Brad’s vocals may have been a little shaky, but his voice, combined with the layered, off-kilter acoustic guitar parts, did bring a nice down-to-earth element to this oft-covered song.
