First, Johnny Cash’s late-career “In My Life” reminiscing squares off with Cara Dillon and Sam Lakeman’s youthful “Wait” optimism. Then, mellow meets spastic when Nick Cave’s laid-back “Let It Be” challenges Ludwig von 88’s world-spazz “Come Together.”

As for the top matchup, I actually kind of like the Dillon/Lakeman cover but… I mean, Johnny Cash has got to go a long way in this competition, right? I think it’s one of the best of the whole group.
Johnny Cash’s cover can’t hold a candle to the original, but Cara Dillon & Sam Lakeman turned a great rocker into a depressing dirge.
Are you sure the Ludwig von 88 song is even a cover? 42 seconds in and I didn’t recognize it at all despite knowing it was supposedly “Come Together”. Unlikely that it would displace Nick Cave’s fantastic “Let it Be” anyway…
