That weird image, which showed up in our inbox on Monday, indicated that Fever Ray would release their version of Peter Gabriel’s “Mercy Street” on Tuesday. They didn’t. It’s here now though and it’s as spooky as anything they’ve done. Way creepier than that Elbow version we heard in June.

We last heard from Karin Elisabeth Dreijer Andersson with her bizarre mammoth-witch-laser-cult video for Nick Cave’s “Stranger Than Darkness.” Hopefully that image indicates a similar video is forthcoming. I mean, would you really go through all that blackface monkey makeup just for a promo shot? Well, if you’re Fever Ray I suppose you might. Either way, listen to the electro-scare track and download a higher-quality MP3 below. (via NME)

Fingers crossed Mr. Gabriel returns the favor, as he is wont to do. Until then, check out covers of every song from his classic So.
