Toronto quartet the Darcys recorded a full-album cover of Steely Dan’s Aja, which they’ll release later this month. For now, they released their version of “Josie,” trading in the original’s reggae-funk for an echoing, ambient-folk vibe. We can’t wait to hear the rest.

In honor of the new year, Canadian dream-poppers Memoryhouse covered the Zombies’ inspiration anthem “This Will Be Our Year.” The duo posted, “I hope this song helps motivate you to lose 5 pounds, stop smoking, and watch less reality T.V. (or is that just me?)”

Last year, ex-Luna bandmates Dean & Britta released 13 Most Beautiful…Songs For Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests. It featured songs inspired by the Factory scene and a cover of Nico’s “I’ll Keep It with Mine” (itself a Bob Dylan cover). Now there’s a slightly more fleshed-out remix circulating, drawing more attention to a beautiful disc that flew under the radar.

When L.A. punk band the Bronx formed side project Mariachi El Bronx, many assumed it was a gag. Two albums into their new mariachi-band career, they clearly aren’t joking. Their new Roy Orbison cover shows some serious Mexicali chops (though we still want to hear what a punk-Bronx cover of this would sound like).

Ministry is best known for their rampaging industrial sound, but back in 1983 they were still your basic poppy synth band. It makes sense, then, the DFA synthpop duo Holy Ghost! chose a song from that period to cover on their new single. Nancy Whang (of LCD Soundsystem) and Juan Maclean help get the party started.

Halloween is over and, according to some retailers at least, that means the Christmas season is upon us! Celebrate with one of the first new carols of the 2011 holiday season (after She & Him). Electropoppers Class Actress play it uncharacteristically straight on this oft-covered staple. They even include sleigh bells!
