Best (So Far) finds the finest first-round covers of the latest pop hits.

Pop singer Kelly Clarkson has certainly come quite a ways from her American Idol days — just last October she released her fifth studio album Stronger, featuring a hugely popular single of the same name. “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” hit the airwaves this past January as the second single off the album and has since become her third song to top Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Best (So Far) finds the finest first-round covers of the latest pop hits.

In light of all the success Katy Perry has garnered in the last several years with the help of hits like “Last Friday Night” and “California Gurls,” it’s not much of a surprise that “The One That Got Away” — the latest single off her third and most popular album, Teenage Dream — is currently blowing up the airwaves. It’s a bit of a task to sort through all of the “covers” of Lady Gaga‘s “Born This Way.” For most popular songs, this would be the result of a sheer overwhelming amount of people attempting to replicate the original. With “Born This Way,” however, there’s the added multitude of recordings coming from Gaga’s early Twittering of the song’s lyrics. For that reason, we excluded from consideration anything released before the official song release.

Without further ado we present five premium covers, the latest in our series that has spanned from “F*** You” to “Hold It Against Me.” For an artist who thrives on pushing boundaries as much as Gaga, this song sticks to a cookie-cutter pop mold. The clips in this video roundup, though, manage to bring out all of the song’s personality. Back in November we presented our ten favorite lesser-known Britney Spears covers. Early-aughts nostalgia reigned with radically altered takes on classic hits like “Oops…I Did It Again!” and “Toxic.” Well, Britney’s back, and so are we. “Hold It Against Me” turns one terrible pickup line into four minutes of guilty-pleasure pop. The single only dropped two weeks ago, but, it being Britney and all, artists have hopped on the cover bandwagon with a speed we haven’t seen since “F*** You.” Continue reading »
