In an effort to raise money for breast cancer, the appropriately named blog Just Like Honey has released a compilation featuring eleven artists covering the Jesus and Mary Chain hit “Just Like Honey.” Among those artists is the electronic group Keep Shelly in Athens.

Far from the obvious choice for a charity song, “Just Like Honey” is the first track from the Jesus and Mary Chain’s 1985 distortion-heavy masterpiece Psychocandy. It utilizes the drumbeat from The Ronettes “Be My Baby,” and quickly becomes laden with guitar and provocation. But most of this is lost as a whole with Keep Shelly in Athens. Their version is more soothing; it starts out hypnotic, floating along with a delicate vocal performance, making it less suggestive than the original. However, the second half of the song picks up in tempo, revealing a clear nod to the JAMC. Download it below. (via Beats Per Minute)
