Milan metalheads Lacuna Coil achieved international recognition with their covers of “Enjoy the Silence” and Dubstar’s “Stars,” so the inclusion of another cover on their new album is not surprising. The source material, however, is: R.E.M., one of the least hardcore bands around. Lacuna Coil, however, amps up the riffage on new album Dark Adrenaline with a cover of “Losing My Religion.”

How you feel about this take on “Losing My Religion” probably depends on how you feel about this sort of goth-metal in general. It has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the face, but rocks pretty hard for a song that once featured the mandolin. Stream it below. (via SPIN)

  1. this sound terrible to me!

  2. Eh. I don’t think it sounds terrible, but… it’s kind of bland. Which is too bad, as I actually quite -like- Lacuna Coil – I’m not always a fan of the genre, but I saw a Firefly music of one of their songs (Our Truth) years ago, and loved the song. Turns out that same cd also had a pretty epic cover of Enjoy the Silence, so I had to get the whole cd. It’s a great cd.

This cover just wasn’t the same. (I totally recommend their Enjoy the Silence cover, though!)

  3. I listened to that… you know… it’s a good try but i think it lacks of good understanding about the things that are behind the original version… i think that’s too rough and doesn’t make any sense of losing religion…
