A couple of weeks ago, KEXP radio set up a studio at the KEX Hostel in Reykjavik during Iceland Airwaves ’11 to broadcast some live performances. One of those was Icelandic indie singer/songwriter and musician Ólöf Arnalds, who was joined by her younger sister Karla on a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man,” and you can watch it below.

The duet features the sisters singing along beautifully to Ólöf playing the charango, a type of Andean lute. The version ends up being mesmerizing and captures the bright, expansive tone of the song off of Dylan’s 1965 album Bringing It All Back Home.  The song has been covered by many artists, including Judy Collins, Odetta, William Shatner and most notably the Byrds, who had a number one hit with it.

Arnalds also covers Dylan’s “She Belongs to Me” on her new five-track covers EP, Ólöf Sings, due out November 7. Listen below to preview track “With Tomorrow / I’m On Fire,” a cover medley of songs by Gene Clark and Bruce Springsteen.
Update 10/31: Listen to Arnalds’ cover of Neil Diamond’s “Solitary Man” too!
