“This is the greatest day of my life” were the first words British actor Hugh Laurie spoke as he stood before the massive crowd at this past weekend’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival. The star of the Fox TV show House took the stage to promote his new covers album Let Them Talk with some blues and gospel standards.

The first song is the iconic blues musician Leadbelly‘s “You Don’t Know My Mind” featuring Laurie on guitar. The second is Laurie’s moving and soulful rendition of the well known African-American spiritual “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho” written in the late 1800s and recorded in 1922 by Harrod’s Jubilee Singers. Both songs appear on his new album Let Them Talk. Check out videos of the weekend’s performances below.

  1. My goodness, who knew he had that in him? I think sometimes the characters that actors are known for become their actual persona in our minds. Which makes hearing him sing all the more of a pleasant surprise! Thanks for sharing. I’ll soon be blogging about singers/actors like Brittany Murphy and Kate Hudson, perhaps we can join forces… or at the very least trade links. :)
