‘Tis the season for free tributes to pop albums of yesteryear. Earlier this year Paper Bag Records put out a free tribute to Madonna’s True Blue. Now, Canadian label Peppermill Records has collected a tribute to Ace of Base’s The Sign. Titled It’s Not a Day for Work (from a line in “All That She Wants”), the collection showcases a sprawling diversity in tackling every song off the chart-topping album. What’s next, Aquarium?

The artists all came up with new song titles, but once you figure out what’s what there are gems aplenty. First, hold off on your impulse to only download the big hits. In doing so, you’d be missing great tracks like the klezmer-blues “Young and Proud” or the twee-folk instrument “My Mind.” Heck, they even cover the “All That She Wants” remix that came at the end of the original album. All in all, it’s a pretty great tribute to a CD you know you loved in middle school. Download a few samples below, then snag it all in one go at the Peppermill Records website.
