Besides being the frontman for Danish electronic-rock band VETO, Troels Abrahamsen is a DJ and producer sometimes known as “super Troels.” He released his first solo project entitled I Know That You Know in 2007 and continues to put out EPs and free downloads of electronic compositions. His latest is a cover of Neil Young’s “My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue).”
The bookend piece to the 1979 album Rust Never Sleeps, “My My, Hey Hey” is both iconic and infamous. Marking the rise of punk and what Young saw as his own growing irrelevance, the song is about the alternatives of continuing to produce similar music. The quote from the lyrics “it’s better to burn out than to fade away,” became associated with Kurt Cobain’s death after he used it in his suicide note. The song’s place in modern rock history makes it one of the more difficult Neil Young tunes to cover. Abrahamsen successfully applies his style of bone-dry techno, but with his unique touch inspired by rock music, to his take on this classic. By taking the song into another genre, he embraces what it’s all about. Download it below. (via HitsintheCar)
