The LateNightTales mixtape series rarely disappoints. The premise (get an artist to compile a set of songs they love) is a good one and the kicker (make said artist record a new cover for the occasion) is even better. We’ve already heard Midlake cover Black Sabbath and Trentmøller cover Chris Isaak for the series this year and now we’ve got a third. It’s MGMT, who covered Bauhaus’ “All We Ever Wanted Was Everything” for their installment.

MGMT’s version is less dancey than you might expect. “Kids” this ain’t. Instead, they opt for a relatively subdued acoustic burble. As the sound wave below will show you, though, it builds gradually before exploding in a fluttering feedback choral yelp. It fades out rather abruptly though, so this might not quite be the whole thing. MGMT’s LateNightTales drops October 3rd.
