Over the past few years, OneRepublic has broken into the mainstream with hits like “Stop and Stare” and “Apologize,” a collaboration with Timbaland that at one point held the record of most radio plays in history. Their most recent single, “Good Life,” has continued the tradition by blowing up the airwaves, and as a perfect feel-good song for the summer, it’s no wonder Philadelphia native and blues rock musician Justin Baron picked up the track to cover.

With nothing but a piano accompanying his distinct voice, Baron breathes new life into an already vivacious track. While the original has the advantage of being colored by multiple instruments and voices, Baron’s acoustic version manages to express the same upbeat and lighthearted feeling without falling flat. Perhaps it’s his apparent energy, the smooth tone of his voice, or the humor he injects into the cover’s YouTube video that makes it work despite its simplicity. It’s hard not to feel good when listening. See for yourself below.
