“In thirty years of making music, I was never actually in awe of anybody new that came along in the British scene, until this lady arrived,” George Michael stated before launching into a cover of the recently deceased Amy Winehouse’s “Love Is A Losing Game” during a recent gig in Prague. While Michael is hardly the first artist to pay tribute to the late soul singer, the Wham! singer’s rendition is no less heart-breaking.

“The thought that we won’t be hearing any more music from her is too sad for words,” Michael said. He then starts singing easily one of the most poignant songs off of Winehouse’s 2006 breakthrough album, Back to Black. As he sang, images of Winehouse were projected behind him. Michael goes through the song with the same grace and anguish as Winehouse, all more gut-wrenching given the circumstance of a young life cut off too soon.
