Anybody familiar with Robyn’s discography knows that her lyrics often depict her as the jilted or still-in-love ex. With her latest single, “Call Your Girlfriend,” we see that role reversed, with Robyn herself stealing someone’s man. Welsh singer Gavin Beach‘s stripped down version of the dance hit provides just as much emotion and persuasion as the original.

Beach, who previously teamed up with Jamie Cleaton to cover Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own,” records this cover in a similarly sweeping manner. His layered piano ballad approach turns the brash lyrics into a more desperate plea, revealing the vulnerability behind such an upbeat pop song. Check it out below.

  1. How fresh and talented. Genius! Such soul and passion in all his covers…I love the song “I look to you”…Gavin Beach could win any national or international singing competition. I believe he could be as famous as Robin Thicke. Listening to Gavin on YouTube and online, I feel like I have discovered a treasure. Keep singing and someone please sign this guy to a label. The world needs to hear his artistry and his passion from within!!
