This Week on Bandcamp rounds up our favorite covers to hit the site in the past seven days.

This Week on Bandcamp took a week off last week, so we come back swinging with a double-header. Instead of five tracks…ten! Download the main set first, then scroll onwards for bonus covers of Stevie Wonder, Twin Peaks, XTC, Kurt Vile, and Angus and Julia Stone.

Iggy Pop’s “The Passenger” was most famously covered by Siouxsie and the Banshees (listen here) as a peppy goth-pop jam. James Collin’s quiet cover strips back both the tempo and feeling for a mellow, depressing cover that brings out the lyrical loneliness.

French duo Crawler dig up one of Britney Spears’ relatively less-remembered singles on this jangly rock cover. The duo may sound like Brandon Flowers fronting the Strokes, but their pig-filled press photo knows no precedent.

Many only remember “Go ‘Way from My Window” as the song that gave Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe” its powerful opening line, but the John Jacob Niles tune offers more than mere inspiration. The lyrics prove powerful in their own right, though you’d never get the folkie connection from this spacey, operatic cover.

Jenny Owen Youngs’ cover of “Hot in Herre” is so good, we featured it in our second-ever post. Almost four years later, she returns with a cover of Kelly Clarkson‘s huge hit, an acoustic take recorded around the same time as the Nelly, but just surfacing now.

This comes off an album titled † † †, a name which tells you a lot about the sound. It’s dark, haunted new wave that demands a lot from the listener. The “Love Will Tear Us Apart” cover on the same album may be more accessible than this transformative Snoop Dogg take, but only just.
