While Nashville’s Kopecky Family Band are on a break from touring they’ve been uploading some home video-style clips to YouTube of their lead singers performing some covers. Dubbed the “Pool Sessions,” these include two recent recordings of singers Kelsey and Gabe Kopecky performing The Temptations‘ classic “My Girl” and Peter, Bjorn and John‘s neo-classic “Young Folks.”

The video of “My Girl” shows Gabe and Kelsey wandering around a Nashville park, passing by playgrounds, park benches and picnic tables. Even separated from the music, this idyllic suburban setting gives the song a loose, casual feel. The singers goof around a little bit, with Gabe on both camera duties and laying down an a cappella bassline for Kelsey to solo over. They strip the song down to its most essential parts, preserving its iconic status even without instruments and despite the fact that they don’t know all of the lyrics.

Their “Young Folks” cover is a little bit more formulaic, if only because they bring in an acoustic guitar. Gabe plays through the chord progression with simple, off-beat strums, giving it a laid-back, campfire sing-along feel. The relaxed atmosphere factors into the video’s vibe, with Gabe relaxing on the couch and Kelsey wandering off to dance at points. Watch both the “My Girl” and “Young Folks” videos below.
