The last time we heard a cover of Robyn’s indie-dance favorite “Hang with Me,” Joywave was slowing it down to a molasses pace. Sarah Jaffe’s version is faster. Slightly. Recorded for Billboard, Jaffe strips away all traces of electronics for a heartbreaking folk ballad.

“There were a lot of favorites [from Robyn's "Body Talk" series] that rotated” Jaffe told Billboard. “But ‘Hang With Me’ just kind of stuck. I just love that song. The chorus in particular, the way I heard it, I thought it could make a really sweet and kind of sad folk song. The chords are easy and I like really simple chords that allow the vocal melody to carry the song.”

Indeed, her singing makes what could be a run-of-the-mill acoustic cover something special indeed. Pain seeps from her voice as the simple guitar plucking rises and falls. Watch and download it below.

Hang With Me was actually first recorded by Paola Bruni, the song composer’s wife, and then covered by Robyn.
