Though publicly seen for years as something of a joke, associated with the likes of Tiny Tim, the ukulele has a significant underground following consisting of serious musicians who explore the limits of the Hawaiian stringed instrument. Just last month Eddie Vedder released his new solo album titled, wait for it, Ukulele Songs. Every Tuesday for the past two years, artists have posted a new ukulele-based Beatles cover on The Beatles Complete on Ukulele. The project will finish on July 31, 2012.

Actress and singer-songwriter Lauren Molina recently contributed a stunning remake of “She Loves You” to the project. Backed by uke, cello and drums, she slows the track down and beautifully layers her vocals, changing the feel from one of exuberance to one of quiet contemplation. It’s quite a transformation. Listen to the track below.
