Those of you who don’t follow Lady Gaga on Twitter (you should be ashamed of yourselves) may not know the impetus behind this post. Though the song came out a month ago, “Edge of Glory” covers just hit the big time yesterday, when Gaga tweeted a cover of the song. We really don’t think it’s anything special, but a Gaga tweet means you’ll be hearing about it for days. The equally over-emotive piano cover of “Born This Way” she tweeted a while back earned the performer 34 million views, a spot on Ellen, and a duet on Gaga’s tour. While we have nothing but congratulations for the performer given the Gaga bump, here are five that beat the snot out of it.

1. Andi (Andrea Kristinsdottir to her parent) has put together a version of the song that gradually builds to a spectacular synth-and-vocals wall of sound, and a surreal yet minimalist video to boot.

2. In a different vein, The Musgraves decided to forgo the synth entirely and instead produce a slower, far more melancholy country-folk arrangement. The vocals especially stand out, as they’re raw and vulnerable where Our Lady’s are upbeat and aggressive.

3. Next up, check out Tom Austin’s interpretation. With nothing but an earpiece, a super-minimal synth backing track, and of course his killer hairstyle and dance moves, he lends the song the depth that the original traded for danceability.

4. The Shures cover a cover, mashing up Glee’s version of of “Don’t Stop Believing” with an equally harmonic “Edge of Glory.” The music of Journey and the lyrics of Gaga proves a perfect fit. It’s as hypnotic as it is catchy, and when the beat drops around a third of the way in, your head will bob along.

5. The most understated cover of the bunch, Colin Boyd abandons all theatrics on this live performance. With just a gruff drawl and his baritone uke, he brings out a desperation that makes you wonder just where that “edge” really lies…and what’s on the other side.
