Kate Bush’s “Suspended in Gaffa” is a bittersweet song about wanting something that you can’t have. In the classic original, Bush’s voice and the instrumentals of the song show both a hidden pain (as she repeats “We can’t have it all, I want it all”) and a fanciful twinkle (the constant waltz whimsy of the song).
In 2008, quirky Syracuse indie rock band Ra Ra Riot released a fun cover that played to their strengths, incorporating their use of classical instruments such as violin and cello. Now, to honor the release of Kate Bush’s new album Director’s Cut, Brooklyn electronica outfit Chrome Canyon (aka Morgan Z) has made a synth-heavy cover that captures the feeling of the original, but also showcases Chrome Canyon’s stellar and powerful voice. Check it out below.
