The Silent League Spazz-Pop Through Broken Social Scene’s “Texico Bitches”

The Silent League has had over 25 members rotate through the group over the last seven years. If that reminds you of Broken Social Scene, you’re clearly not the only one. The Silent League and BSS both revolve around one core member (Justin Russo and Kevin Drew, respectively) while other members come and go. The connection shows itself musically as well, as displayed in the Silent League’s all-hands-on-deck pop cover of BSS’s “Texico Bitches.”
Originally on BSS’s 2010 Forgiveness Rock Record, this new “Texico Bitches” comes off stopgap remix album We Go Forward. The collection includes remixes by the likes of Neon Indian and Memory Tapes, who remixed the group’s cover of ELO’s “Yours Truly, 2095.” “Texico Bitches” slams together dance beats, string sections, folk harmonies, and percussive flourishes that, for all we know, may have been played on an actual kitchen sink.
