Disregarding Dom’s recent “Alejandro” cover, it’s rare for a Lady Gaga cover to make you long for the original. With the bizarre, poppy originality inherent to Gaga’s songs, covers typically translate fairly well. Sir Noah Shark’s cover of Gaga’s new single, “Judas,” is no exception; rather it is somewhat exceptional (in the field of Gaga covers, at least).

Instead of simply slowing down or speeding up or throwing in some different instruments, Shark makes “Judas” sound like it was meant to be an alt-rock tune. He changes up the sound quite a bit, but maintains Gaga’s beat while dropping the shrill, annoying Juudas Juda-ah-ah Juuudas Gagaaa. All in all, as far as Lady Gaga covers go, this one gets high points for being solid to listen to; not just as a cover, but as a song.
