Sharon Van Etten makes hauntingly beautiful music like no one else can. We last saw her do so with the Smiths, and now she proves herself again with a simple version of Glass Ghost’s already devastating 2009 release “Like a Diamond.” The track channels the original but adds a level of intimacy and intricacy that only Van Etten can deliver.

“Eliot Krimsky [of Glass Ghost] is one of my favorite writers,” Van Etten said. “His left hand is hip hop, his right hand is jazz, and his lyrics are beat. This is one of the first songs I ever heard of his and I was absolutely tickled he wanted me to sing it. I hope I did it justice.”

She also said that the cover foreshadows what’s to come on her new solo album. Here’s hoping there’s more amazing songs like this.
