As we’ve learned from the copious amounts of covers of the infamous “Friday,” sometimes covering a bad song has its merits. And today’s song isn’t just bad – it hits #8 on AOL Radio’s 100 Worst Songs Ever list. What is the aural atrocity, you ask? Well, the name Right Said Fred may not ring a bell, but how about the title: “I’m Too Sexy”? Quebec-based singer Roxanne Potvin likes the ring of it, too.

“I also liked the irony of it, which made it even goofier to me because that’s not the image I project as an artist,” she tells Cover Me. “It’s one of those songs that you either loved or hated or both at the same time, but that always seems to bring back a smile when you hear it.”

Opting for a more bare and ragged approach, the Juno Award-nominated Potvin attacks the novelty hit with minimal drums and electric guitar. Her speak-song vocals seem to pay homage to the original one-hit wonder. Her label debut album, Play comes out on April 19 via Black Hen.
