Portland musician Dave Depper has recorded and toured with the Decemberists and Loch Lomond for years, but never released his own music. After he finished his latest jaunt last spring, though, he sat down to write some songs of his own. He failed.
“I was in a rut,” Depper said in a press release. “I’d played on and helped produce dozens of different records, but I’d had yet to follow through with completing anything of my own. I knew that I needed to do something – anything – to prove to myself that I was capable of finishing something that I’d started.”
That “something” turned out to be a full re-creation of Paul McCartney’s Ram. Recorded last spring, it stays as true to the original as one can with a much smaller budget. Next month it comes out on CD and vinyl on Jackpot Records. Check out two sample tracks below: “Dear Boy” and Ram/Ram Project bonus track “Oh Woman, Oh Why.”

That was FANTASTIC! I’m a HUGE Macca fan and not only is Ram my #1 fave album but “Dear Boy” is the fave off that record. Hard to nail and Dave NAILED it! Thanks for turning me onto this!
