This March, we pit 64 Beatles covers against each other in what we call Moptop Madness.

Yesterday’s winners: Dirt Poor Robins, “Eleanor Rigby” and Mark Heard, “I’m Looking Through You”

Four strong contenders today. Alison Krauss sets her bluegrassy “I Will” against Neil Cowley Trio’s jazzed-out “Revolution 9” (yes, that “Revolution 9”). Then, an indie-alt battle between eels’ “I’m a Loser” and the Breeders’ “Happiness Is a Warm Gun.”

Listen to each pairing below, then vote for your favorite. For added sway, try to convince others to vote your way in the comments. Voting closes in 24 hours.

  1. Wow. I do not agree with the majority at all on this one. I see the appeal of the Breeders cover, I guess, but I’m not feeling the Lite-FM vibe of Alison Krauss.

  2. Obviously I’m in the minority, but I agree with Eric about the fact that the Alison Krauss just doesn’t work for me.

However, I’m glad to see that the scores turned around for the other pairing between when I voted and now. I love both of the second pair of covers, but “Happiness is a Warm Gun” is quite simply far more impressive technically than “I’m a Loser”.

  3. I may also be in the minority but I much prefer the vitality and energy of Neil Cowleys ‘Revolution’. The Alison Krauss version of ‘I Will’ is indeed very pretty – but thats about it. For me, anyway!

  4. Neil Cowley every time, much more radical, inventive and ultimitely different to what one would expect from a Beatles cover, even from a band essentially known as a jazz group (there is so much more to them than that)
