Canadian popstress Avril Lavigne‘s new album, Goodbye Lullaby, hits the streets today after an extended and difficult gestation. The album was originally slated to come out in 2009, but personal difficulties prevented the release. Perhaps it’s appropriate then that to promote it, she turned up in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge and covered a song that actually did come out in 2009: Ke$ha‘s “Tik Tok.”
Stripped of bombast (and Auto-Tune) but not pop sensibility, Lavigne’s version works surprisingly well. Perhaps she hopes to channel some of Ms. $ebert’s mojo in her quest for her third number one album in a row. By the way, anyone notice that Lavigne’s backing band looks like a bunch of 45-year old recovered metalheads? Just saying. Check out the video below.

This is absolutely true: Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt plays lead guitar for Rhianna. I happen to think Nuno’s incredible, and Extreme is really underrated, but hey, way to find a gig that pays.

Man, no shame in liking Rihanna. I think she’s got some great songs in her stable, and even before Nuno she had a solid band behind her. That should be a good show.
