We first heard G. Love and the Avett Brothers’ “Fixin’ to Die” collaboration last month, but today we bring it back with visual accompaniment. The new music video shows the band recording the old delta blues song in an old church with lots of stomping, old-timey harmonies, and stained-glass windows. It’s sparse, but you probably don’t want high production on a blues song about dying.
Originally recorded by Bukka White as “Fixin’ to Die Blues,” the song eventually dropped the somewhat unnecessary “Blues.” What genre could a song called “Fixin’ to Die” be but blues? Robert Plant went even farther out, recording his version as “Funny in My Mind” (which sounds more like the Queen song “I’m Going Slightly Mad”). G. Love keeps the regular ol’ “Fixin’ to Die” title for the song and album. Watch the video below.
