Looking at Robert Smith’s exterior, you wouldn’t peg him as a romantic. Yet, behind the eccentric disheveled hair, past the purposely-pasty skin, and beyond the Goth guy-liner, Smith is a pretty sentimental dude. The Cure frontman penned “Just Like Heaven” after an inspiring trip to the seashore with his girlfriend, Mary Poole. The song not only won over the girl who became his wife, but became the band’s first song on the Billboard Top 40.
In 2009, the song won our hearts all over again. It was part of a Grammy-nominated soundtrack, but pokies online Smith and co. weren’t the ones contributing. Instead, the honor was given to a set of Kentucky-bred identical twins, Chandra and Leigh Watson. Known simply as The Watson Twins, the gals imparted their sweet harmonies and soulful folk style to The Cure classic for the soundtrack to HBO”s hit vampire series True Blood. Harmonica and acoustic guitar replace the synth keyboards and rhythm guitar for the twin’s meltingly romantic version. With a dramatically slower tempo and heaps of southern-tinged charm, the song does channel the feeling of falling in love on a sunny shore. Check it out below.
