Pablo Díaz-Reixa calls the music he makes as El Guincho “space-age exotica.” While this may hold true for his original material, his new set feels more “old-world cucaracha.” The Piratas de Sudamérica series of EPs takes a fresh look at South American standards. You may not know these songs, but listen below to get in the spirit.

Each release comes as a limited edition vinyl EP. The Young Turks website has put the first on presale, accompanied with an instant download upon purchase. It features duets with Grammy-winning singer Julieta Venegas and Cuban guitarist Adrian De Alfonso. El Guincho tinges the traditional rhythms with his electronic flourishes, but never loses sight of the cultural history underpinning these tunes. Listen to the full EP below.
