Song of the Day posts one cool cover every morning. Sometimes they’re artist submissions.

We’ve got an artist submission today, from reader Brian Colburn. He found us via Cover Me’s brand-new, five-years-too-late MySpace page (friend us!). Brian’s a Jersey songwriter who has shared the stage with Toad the Wet Sprocket and Blues Traveler. His last couple albums include covers of Tom Petty’s “Yer So Bad,” and the Cars’ “You Might Think.”

“You Might Think” hit in big in 1984, in part because of a cheesy video that exploited new digital editing to often absurd extremes. It’s mostly just Ric Ocasek creeping on girls, but now he has so many more tools with which to be sketchy. Yay technology!

Brian’s cover is comparatively stripped down, though in this case that’s not saying a lot. Compared to that, Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” video is comparatively stripped down. It skips along with peppy singing and backup singers. Way less creepy.

  1. Oh that’s crazy! Read this today, and I just also recorded a cover of the same song last night. This is an excellent one though :) Gotta love the Cars. Here’s my take:
